Connecting Your Massachusetts (MassTaxConnect) Account to Remitian

This guide walks you through the process of connecting your Massachusetts (MassTaxConnect) account to Remitian so you can securely schedule and pay your MA taxes through the Remitian platform.

Do you have to authorize Remitian?

Yes. Massachusetts uses a Third-Party Access request and approval system through MassTaxConnect.

Part 1: Connecting Your MA Account from Remitian

  1. Go to the Remitian Homepage Log in to your Remitian account and click View Tax Payments.
  2. Select Massachusetts (MA) From the list of jurisdictions, choose Massachusetts.
  3. Connect to MassTaxConnect
    • Click Connect to Massachusetts.
    • A message will appear informing you that you are receiving a connection request from the Remitian Payment Team on mtc.dor.state.ma.us.
    • To allow Remitian to file and make payments on your behalf, you will:
      • Receive an email with the request from Remitian and
      • Complete the request for access online.
      • The third party and taxpayer will be notified by email from DOR once the request has been approved or denied.
  4. Approve the Connection
    • To approve a third-party initiated access request from MassTaxConnect, a taxpayer will:
    • Log in to MassTaxConnect (individual taxpayers can learn how to create a MassTaxConnect logon by reviewing this video)
    • Select the Manage My Profile hyperlink in the top right section of the panel
    • Select the More… tab and then the View Access Requests from Third Parties hyperlink in the Third-party Access panel
    • Select the Approve/Deny hyperlink for the request
    • Select the check box in the Give Rights column
    • Select the access type in the Granted Rights column.

Part 2: Approving Remitian Access on MassTaxConnect

  1. Log In to MassTaxConnect

  2. Access Your Profile

    • Select the Manage My Profile hyperlink in the top right section of the Home panel.

    • Click the More… tab.

  3. Locate the Third-Party Access Request

    • Under the Third-Party Access panel, select View Access Requests from Third Parties.
    • Find the pending request from Remitian Team.

  1. Approve the Request
    • Select the Approve/Deny hyperlink for the request
    • Select the check box in the Give Rights column on the left hand side.
    • Review the access type in the Granted Rights column on the right hand side.
    • Click Next to confirm your selections.

  1. Submit the Approval
    • Once confirmed, click Submit.
    • A confirmation screen will appear showing that the request has been approved.
    • Both you and Remitian will be notified by email from the MA Department of Revenue (DOR) once the request is approved.

Part 3: Creating a MassTaxConnect Account (If You Don't Already Have One)

If you don't have a MassTaxConnect account, you'll need to create one before connecting to Remitian.

For Individuals Who Have Previously Filed MA Taxes:

  1. Visit MassTaxConnect Go to mtc.dor.state.ma.us and click Sign Up, then select Create My Logon.
  2. Verify Your Identity Select "I am an individual who has previously filed taxes in the state of Massachusetts" and click Next. You'll need to provide one of the following to verify your identity:
    • Amount due from one of your last 3 returns
    • Amount to be refunded from one of your last 3 returns
    • Line item detail from one of your last 3 returns
  3. Enter Your Information Follow the on-screen prompts, entering your:
    • Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
    • Personal details (name, address, contact information)
  4. Create Your Login Set up your username and password for your new account.
    • A Letter ID from a letter you received from the MA DOR about signing up for MassTaxConnect
  5. Set Up Two-Step Verification Massachusetts uses two-step verification to protect your account. After registration is complete, you will be prompted to set this up. Choose from:
    • Authenticator app
    • Text message (SMS)
    • Email Enter the security code sent to your chosen method and confirm.
  6. Complete Registration Once your account is active, your MassTaxConnect homepage will display, confirming your account is ready to use.

For Businesses Not Previously Registered with MA DOR:

  1. Visit MassTaxConnect Go to mtc.dor.state.ma.us and click Sign Up, then select Register a New Business (or Register a New Taxpayer from Quick Links).
  2. Complete the Online Application You'll need the following information:
    • Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
    • Legal business name and structure (Sole Proprietorship, LLC, Partnership, Corporation, etc.)
    • Business start date and primary address
    • NAICS code (industry classification)
  3. Select Your Tax Types Choose the tax types your business is liable for (e.g., Withholding, Sales and Use Tax, Corporate Excise, PFML).
  4. Submit and Await Confirmation
    • After submitting, you'll receive a confirmation email with account setup instructions.
    • The MA DOR typically processes registrations within 3–5 business days.
    • Once approved, you will receive a mailed registration certificate for the tax types you selected.
  5. Enable Two-Step Verification Log back in and set up two-step verification for improved security.

Next Steps

Once your MassTaxConnect account is set up and you've approved the Remitian third-party connection:

  • You'll be able to view, schedule, and pay MA tax payments directly from your Remitian dashboard.
  • Remitian will automatically sync your payment history and filing details for future use.
