  • Why do I need to authorize Remitian in Georgia (GA) for Estimated Tax Payment Handling?

Georgia handles tax payments differently depending on how a payment is submitted. Using the wrong payment method can cause automatic refunds of overpayments, which may disrupt tax planning and quarterly estimate strategies.

Remitian’s Georgia workflow is specifically designed to avoid these issues.

    What Remitian Does Not Use

    Georgia “Quick Payment” Option

    • The “Make a Quick Payment” option in Georgia Tax Center (GTC) does not support estimated payments properly.
    • Payments made this way may be automatically refunded, even when an overpayment should be applied to a future tax year.
    • This behavior occurs regardless of how the payment is designated on the tax return.

Because of this risk, Remitian does not use the Quick Payment flow.

The Correct Method Remitian Processes GA Payments

Third Party Filer Submission via GTC

    • Remitian is registered with Georgia as a Third-Party Filer.
    • Payments are submitted on behalf of the taxpayer; the same way a CPA or taxpayer would submit them directly inside GTC.
    • Payments are explicitly classified as:
      • Estimated Payments
      • For the correct tax year

This is currently the only supported method in Georgia to reliably submit estimated payments without triggering automatic refunds.

    Client Authorization – Simple Explanation

Clients do not share Georgia Tax Center usernames or passwords with Remitian.

    Instead:

    1. Client has (or creates) a GTC account
      • Required for Georgia estimated payments
    2. Client approves payments inside Remitian
      • Approval is payment-specific
      • Client remains in control at all times
    3. Remitian submits the payment as a Third Party Filer
      • Georgia treats the payment as if the client or CPA submitted it directly
      • Payment is applied correctly as an estimated payment
