What is Remitian?
Remitian is your tax personal assistant—a secure platform that simplifies tax payments. Think of it as an end-to-end service that connects to your bank, keeps your accountant in the loop, and gives you complete control over your tax obligations, all while saving you the hassle of navigating multiple government portals.
Your First Steps
1. Accept Your Invitation
Your accounting firm will send you an invitation email to join Remitian. This email will come from your firm and include a personalized link to get started.
2. Complete Verification (Canada Required)
As a registered money service business with Canadian regulators (Fintrac), Remitian is required to verify your identity. This is handled through a secure integration with Plaid:
- Click the Verify button in your profile
- Upload required documents
- The process is quick and secure—your information is protected
3. Connect Your Bank Account
You have two options for linking your bank:
Option 1: Plaid Integration (Recommended)
- Similar to logging into online banking
- Quick and secure connection
- Most popular choice
Option 2: Manual Linking
- Use a void check or direct deposit information
- Takes slightly longer but equally secure

Payment Approval Workflow
How it works:
- Your accountant schedules a tax payment on your behalf
- You receive an email notification to review and approve
- Approve the payment with one click
- Two days before the withdrawal date, you get a reminder to ensure funds are available
- Both you and your accountant see real-time status updates
Payment Speed Options:
- Regular: Standard processing timeline
- Express: Faster processing for urgent payments
- Priority: Fastest option (currently in beta)
Each option has different pricing based on how quickly funds are processed.
HST Filing Made Simple (Canada Only)
If you need to file HST, Remitian has you covered:
- Complete the straightforward filing form
- All necessary lines included (including 90/91)
- Automatic calculations
- Or let your accountant prepare filings for you to review and approve

You'll always know:
- Which payments are pending your approval
- When payments have been processed
- Complete payment history for all your tax accounts

Your Dashboard Overview
When you log in, you'll see:

Getting Reminders Without Processing Payments
Not ready to make payments through the platform yet? You can still use Remitian just for reminders:
- Receive automated notifications about upcoming tax obligations
- Keep track of important deadlines
- No payment processing required until you're ready
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong?
If a payment doesn't go through:
- You'll see an "expired" status
- You can reschedule for another day
- Or dismiss the payment if no longer needed
- Your accountant will see all changes in real-time
Weekly Reminders:
If you haven't approved a payment, you'll receive weekly reminders that increase in frequency as the due date approaches. If you've added a phone number, you'll also get SMS notifications.
