How to Get Started with the Remitian API

This article explains what the Remitian API is, how to use the documentation, and practical steps for integrating Remitian’s payment capabilities into your application.

What Is the Remitian API?

The Remitian API is a secure developer interface that lets software vendors, tax platforms, and financial tools embed tax-payment capabilities directly into their products. Instead of building complicated tax payment workflows from scratch, you can use Remitian’s API to:

✅ Connect tax payments to any existing workflow
✅ Automate routing, validation, and confirmation across jurisdictions
✅ Embed payment initiation and proof-of-payment screens into your product’s UI

The API enables you to extend your platform from “ready to file” to “ready to pay” by connecting directly with tax authority rails while abstracting compliance and banking risk.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

  1. Developer access to your Remitian account

  2. API credentials (keys or tokens) — these are required to authenticate all requests

  3. A basic understanding of REST APIs and HTTP methods (GET, POST, etc.)

If you don’t have API credentials yet, contact your Remitian account representative or support.

How to Use the API Documentation

📘 API Documentation: https://docs.remitian.com/products/wqptjtsou5/ey4itpmogr/index.html

The documentation at the link above is the authoritative source for Remitian’s API reference. Here’s how to navigate it effectively:

1. Overview / Getting Started

Look for Introduction or Getting Started sections to understand:

  • Authentication requirements

  • Base URL(s) to send requests

  • Environment info (production vs sandbox)

2. Authentication

Most Remitian API endpoints will require authentication using an API key or token in the header. Check the documentation’s authentication section to see exactly:

3. Endpoints and Methods

API documentation is organized by endpoint. Typical sections include:

  • Payment Initiation — start a tax payment

  • Validation / Routing — confirm the payment fields are correct

  • Status / Confirmation — check payment status or retrieve proof of payment

Each endpoint will list:

✔ HTTP method (GET, POST, etc.)
✔ Path (e.g., /payments)
✔ Required parameters
✔ Example requests & responses

4. Code Samples

Look for code examples in languages like:

  • JavaScript / Node

  • Python

  • cURL

These accelerate your development and reduce errors.

Example Workflow (High-Level)

Below is a high-level flow you might build with the API:

  1. Authenticate your client with the API

  2. Collect payment details from your user (tax type, amount, bank account info)

  3. Submit a payment request to Remitian through the API

  4. Validate & route the payment to the appropriate tax authority

  5. Capture response including confirmation or error

  6. Store or display proof of payment in your UI

Best Practices

Use sandbox/testing environments before going live
Handle errors gracefully — always check the API’s error responses
Log responses securely for audit and debugging
Secure your API keys — never expose them in client-side code
