How to use HST/GST Filing using Remitian

This article outlines the steps required to file HST or GST using the Remitian platform, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.

Key Steps

1. Accessing the Client Management Page

  • Start from the Remitian dashboard.
  • Navigate to the Clients section.
  • Select the client for whom you wish to perform the filing.

2. Initiating HST Filing

  • On the client's management page, locate the HST Filing tab.
  • Click on Add to open the HST filing form.

3. Completing the HST Filing Form

  • Fill in the required fields:
    • Tax account
    • Tax code
    • Reporting period
  • Ensure all amounts for each line item are accurately included.

4. Submitting the Filing for Review

  • After completing the form, click the Submit button.
  • This action sends the tax filing to the client for their review and approval.

5. Client Approval Process 

  • If the client approves the filing, it will be automatically submitted to the CRA.
  • If denied, you will receive a notification of the denial.
  • You can view the filing status regardless of approval or denial.

Review Process for Staff-created Filings (optional)

  • If a staff member creates the filing, it may require your review and approval before it goes to the client, depending on your workflow settings.

6. Creating Tax Payments

  • Note that submitting filings does not create payments automatically.
  • To create payments, go to the Tax Payment tab, click Add, and select the preferred tax type.

Notes

  • Ensure all information entered in the filing form is accurate to avoid delays or denials.
  • Review client settings to confirm if filings require your approval before submission.

Handling Government Returns 

  • If the client receives a return from the government due to the HST or GST filing, it will be sent to the bank account on file with the CRA.

Receiving Payments 

    • Clients will receive their returns either via direct deposit or a check mailed to the address on file with the CRA.
